An engineering veteran, Mr. Brij Sharma graduated in 1969 from India. He landed in the USA via Germany and Brazil, where he worked for corporations for a while. Working for these corporations helped him gain a wealth of knowledge, both in terms of technical and sales, marketing and finances.
1986s - When It All Began...
In 1986, Mr. Brij Sharma started PowerVolt Inc. Initially, he
started designing
the
product lines of DC power supplies and a year later had completed the design.
The
next step was to start manufacturing and establishing a supply chain for the
products.
One year later, in 1987, Mr. Sharma moved the company from his condo to
the basement of his house, where he continued for the next four
years.
1991 and Beyond - Transforming Growth
Since 1991, PowerVolt has gone through various growth processes, initiating a
transformative journey with the acquisition of Ztran
Incorporated, which broadened PowerVolt
customer's base and enhanced its product line with advanced transformers.
This marked the beginning of a dynamic expansion.
PowerVolt further accelerated its growth by acquiring Electro
Mechanical Industries (EMI) in 2005. Over the next decade, PowerVolt continued to
integrate additional companies into the group, driving sustained growth and
solidifying its position in the transformer industry.
2007 and Beyond - Strategic Acquisitions
In 2007, PowerVolt expanded its reach by acquiring Wabash Transformer
Inc. Wabash specialized products include Class 2 transformers. It has a remarkable name in the Class 2 transformer industry.
Ensign Corporation became a part of PowerVolt family in 2008.
Ensign - "The Flagship of Custom Magnetics" is known for custom designed
transformers.
With Ensign, new products such as current sense and ferroresonant were added.
"Since 2007, all of these companies have operated work under the banner of the PowerVolt Group of companies, and have enjoyed tremendous growth."
2016 and Beyond - Continued Expansion
PowerVolt’s commitment to advancing transformer technology and expanding its
manufacturing capabilities was underscored by several strategic acquisitions in
recent years. In 2016, Indiana Transformer
was acquired, enhancing the production
capacity and broadening transformer product line.
The acquisition of Prem Magnetics in 2021 further
solidified its position, integrating advanced magnetic
technologies into product offerings.
Most recently, in 2023, American Magnetics was added
to the portfolio, "significantly", "strengthening" expertise in magnetic
components and continuing the tradition of innovation in transformer
manufacturing.
